Beyond Saline: The Benefits of Adding Electrolytes and Vitamins to Your Infusion
Not all IV therapy is created equal. A bag of plain saline does one thing well: it replaces fluid volume. That's genuinely useful in the right situation. But if you're coming to IV therapy for broader nutritional support, understanding what's in your bag and why it's there matters more than most providers let on.
Here's a straightforward breakdown.

Plain Saline: When Simple Is Right
0.9% Normal Saline is the foundation of most IV therapy. It replaces fluid, supports blood pressure, and delivers whatever else is added to the bag directly into circulation. For clients managing dehydration, orthostatic symptoms, or post-travel fluid loss, plain saline is sometimes exactly what's needed. No additives, no extras, just efficient clinical hydration.
At Hyndford Hydration, our Island Hydration infusion is exactly this. We offer it because sometimes the most effective option is also the simplest one.
Why Electrolytes Get Added
Electrolytes, including sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium, regulate nerve and muscle function, fluid balance, and cellular communication. When you're depleted through illness, physical exertion, poor intake, or prolonged stress, replacing fluids alone doesn't address the full picture.
Magnesium, in particular, is one of the most commonly depleted minerals in people with demanding schedules, disrupted sleep, or high physical output. It plays a central role in muscle function, nerve transmission, and energy metabolism. Our Pacific Reset infusion is built around magnesium and B vitamins for this very reason.

Why Vitamins Get Added
Oral vitamin supplements have to survive digestion before reaching circulation. Absorption rates vary considerably depending on gut health, the form of the supplement, and what else you've eaten. IV delivery bypasses this entirely, putting nutrients directly into the bloodstream at concentrations oral supplementation often can't reliably match.
Vitamin C is commonly added for its role in immune and metabolic function. B vitamins are essential cofactors across dozens of metabolic pathways. Glutathione, your body's primary endogenous antioxidant, has notoriously poor oral bioavailability, making IV or IM delivery a practical option for clients who want direct replenishment.
Why Formulation Matters
Here's where we differ from many IV therapy providers. Longer ingredient lists don't equal better outcomes. Adding ten ingredients to a 1,000ml bag sounds comprehensive. It may simply mean that each nutrient is present at a diluted, subtherapeutic concentration, thereby adding unnecessary fluid volume and cardiovascular load.
At Hyndford Hydration, our formulations are intentionally targeted. Fewer ingredients at clinically relevant concentrations in lower fluid volumes. Every ingredient has a rationale for being there. If we can't explain why something is in your bag in plain language, it won't be in your bag.
What This Looks Like in Practice
Our infusion menu directly reflects this approach. Cedar Shield delivers Vitamin C and B vitamins in 250ml for focused immune and metabolic support. Harbour Renewal builds on that by adding Magnesium and Calcium for broader nutrient coverage. Pacific Reset prioritizes magnesium and B vitamins in 500ml for recovery-focused sessions.
Each formulation has a clear clinical rationale. None of them are padded to look impressive on a menu.
IV and IM therapy is supportive in nature. We don't diagnose or treat medical conditions, and we won't claim to.
