Hangover Recovery and IV Therapy: What Actually Helps and Why
Understanding Hangovers
A hangover is not complicated physiologically. Alcohol is a diuretic, it depletes B vitamins, it disrupts sleep quality, and it causes inflammation. The morning after a big night is essentially your body presenting the bill for all of the above simultaneously.
Most people manage it with water, coffee, and time. For days when that is not sufficient, or when you have somewhere to be and cannot afford to spend the morning horizontal, IV therapy offers a more direct approach to addressing what is actually happening in your body.

What a Hangover Actually Is
Alcohol suppresses antidiuretic hormone, which is why you urinate significantly more than you drink. That fluid loss takes electrolytes with it, particularly sodium, potassium, and magnesium. B vitamins are depleted by increased urinary excretion and by the metabolic demands of alcohol processing. Sleep is disrupted even when you feel like you slept heavily, because alcohol suppresses REM sleep and fragments the sleep cycle. Acetaldehyde, a toxic byproduct of alcohol metabolism, contributes to the headache, nausea, and general feeling of systemic wrongness that characterize a bad hangover.
Oral rehydration helps, but it has to compete with a digestive system that is already compromised. Drinking water when you are nauseated is not always straightforward. And replacing depleted electrolytes and B vitamins through oral intake takes considerably longer than direct IV delivery.

What We Offer for Hangover Recovery in Nanaimo
At Hyndford Hydration, we do not have a single branded hangover infusion because the right choice depends on what you are actually dealing with.
Pacific Reset is our most commonly chosen recovery infusion. Formulated around magnesium and B vitamins in 500ml of Ringer's Lactate, it addresses fluid replacement, electrolyte replenishment, and B vitamin depletion that contribute to post-drinking fatigue and cognitive fog. It is a focused, targeted infusion rather than a kitchen sink approach.
Harbour Renewal is the better choice for clients who want broader nutrient coverage in a single session. The classic Myers Cocktail formulation adds Vitamin C and Calcium alongside the magnesium and B vitamins, covering more ground for clients who have had a particularly rough night or who want more comprehensive support.
Island Hydration is available for clients who simply want clean, efficient saline rehydration without additives. Sometimes that is exactly what is needed.
Add-Ons Available on Clinical Assessment
Gravol is available as an add-on for clients presenting with nausea, administered either alongside your infusion or as a standalone IM injection. It addresses the nausea component directly rather than waiting for rehydration alone to settle things down.
Toradol is available on clinical assessment for clients presenting with significant headache or myalgia. Administered IM, it provides prescription-strength anti-inflammatory pain relief that works considerably faster than oral NSAIDs when you are already symptomatic. Your nurse assesses suitability on arrival and reviews contraindications before administration.
Neither Gravol nor Toradol is available as a pre-booked add-on. Both are administered only during clinical assessment.

Group Recovery Sessions
Recovering as a group is also an option. If last night was a group effort, this morning can be too. We offer group discounts for two or more people booking together. Get in touch, and we will put together a package that works for your group size and location.
A Practical Note
IV therapy addresses the physiological components of a hangover efficiently. It does not speed up alcohol metabolism or eliminate acetaldehyde faster than your liver can process it. Time is still part of the equation. IV therapy removes dehydration, electrolyte depletion, and B vitamin deficits from the equation, so your body can work with fewer deficits while it does the rest.
IV and IM therapy is supportive in nature. We do not diagnose or treat medical conditions, and we will not claim to do so.
All sessions are delivered to your door with no mandatory consultation fees for most clients across Nanaimo, from Lantzville to Cedar. Clinical screening is completed before every visit under a valid BC medical directive. Outside our service area? Get in touch for a travel quote.
