Mobile IV Therapy in Nanaimo: Some Myths Worth Addressing

Jun 01, 2025

Mobile IV therapy is still relatively new to most people in Nanaimo, which means there is a fair amount of misinformation floating around about what it is, who it is for, and whether it is safe. Here are the most common ones we hear.

Myth 1: IV Therapy Is Only for People Who Are Seriously Ill

This one comes up a lot, probably because most people's experience with IV lines is in a hospital context. Clinical IV therapy and wellness IV therapy share a delivery method but serve different purposes.

Wellness IV therapy is a supportive service for generally healthy people seeking efficient hydration and nutritional support outside a clinical setting. It is not a medical treatment, and we do not position it as one. The people who book with us are managing demanding schedules, recovering from travel or physical exertion, dealing with chronic conditions that affect hydration, or simply want a more direct and reliable delivery method than oral supplementation. None of that requires being seriously unwell.

Myth 2: It Cannot Possibly Be as Safe at Home as in a Clinic

The safety of IV therapy comes down to the clinical standards of whoever is administering it, not the building they are standing in.

At Hyndford Hydration, every session is administered by a BCCNM-regulated nurse with verified clinical IV experience. Vitals are checked on arrival. Sterile technique is used throughout. Your nurse stays with you for the entire session. All treatments are administered under a valid BC medical directive by a licensed Nurse Practitioner, and clinical screening occurs before every visit, without exception.

The equipment and medications are the same whether you are in a clinic or in your living room. What changes is that you do not have to travel, wait, or sit under fluorescent lighting to receive the same standard of care.

Myth 3: The Effects Are Just a Placebo

This comes up occasionally, and it is worth addressing honestly. Some of what clients report after IV therapy is subjective and difficult to measure in a clinical trial. That is true.

What is not debatable is the mechanism. IV delivery puts fluid, electrolytes, and nutrients directly into circulation at concentrations that bypass the absorption variables of the digestive system. If you are dehydrated, you get rehydrated efficiently. If your magnesium is depleted, it gets replaced directly. The physiological rationale is sound, and the individual components in our infusions have documented roles in human health. We covered this in detail across our individual ingredient posts if you want to go deeper on the evidence.

What we will not do is guarantee specific outcomes for any individual. Responses vary, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Myth 4: It Is Only for Wealthy People

Worth addressing practically. Our infusions start at $175 for plain saline and $90 for IM injections.  We understand it is a considered purchase for most people.

What it is not is a frivolous expense. A clinical service administered by a regulated nurse, delivered to your door, with medical oversight on every treatment and no mandatory consultation fees for most clients. The pricing reflects what it actually costs to do properly, not what it costs to cut corners.

We also offer group discounts, bundle pricing for repeat clients, and IM add-ons at significantly reduced rates when added to an IV visit. If cost is a concern, get in touch, and we will find an option that makes sense.

Myth 5: Anyone Can Do This; It Is Not Really Nursing

Starting an IV line, monitoring a client throughout an infusion, assessing for adverse reactions, and making real-time clinical decisions requires actual nursing training and experience. It is not a skill you pick up at a weekend certification course.

Every Hyndford Hydration nurse is BCCNM-regulated with verified clinical IV experience. Medical oversight is provided by a BC-licensed Nurse Practitioner on every treatment. It is a clinical service delivered in a non-clinical setting, and the standard of care reflects that.

IV and IM therapy is supportive in nature. We do not diagnose or treat medical conditions, and we will not claim to do so.
